Remotely-Operated Vehicle

Designed, manufactured, and programmed a custom underwater remotely-operated-vehicle.

Overview

While working at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, I worked alongside a small team of interns to created an underwater remotely-operated vehicle from scratch using equipment found around the lab. The vehicle chassis was designed in SolidWorks before being manufactured out of PVC and 3D printed components. A cylindrical acrylic housing held the Arduino used to control the motors. The motor controls were mapped to a standard remote control joystick system for ease of use. Custom housing end caps were designed and manufactured to allow cables to pass through yet remain sealed to avoid water leaks. The final touch was the addition of a waterproof live stream camera to the front of the vehicle, allowing the user to enjoy the view!
